From Colleagues:
Conway Brackett is one of the top Latin/Classics instructors in the state. She taught Latin in our middle school for years before she decided to devote more of her daytime to raising her family. If and when she so chooses, she would be the first choice of any private or public school to head an entire Latin program. She has tutored countless students who have needed individualized attention here at Lovett. In every case, that student has improved his/her status in the class significantly. She has taught all of the salient authors including Vergil and Caesar the latter which will be the focus of the new Advanced Placement curriculum in 2013. Her students have won a myriad of awards on the CAMWS exam (Classical Association of the Midwest and South), the National Latin Exam, the AP exam, and the academic tests at the annual GJCL convention at Rock Eagle (Georgia Junior Classical League). Ken Rau, Latin Teacher, The Lovett School There is no one better than Conway Brackett. Her years teaching at Lovett give her a thorough understanding of the most traditional prep school Latin curricula. Her subsequent work at the Michael Carlos museum and with homeschool programs has been very creative and rich in cultural activities. Conway is as strong with nurturing a remedial student as she is with challenging an advanced one. She also recognizes that some students can be both -- with strengths and weaknesses in a broad range of areas -- and thereby gets the best from them. Conway's fine credentials are matched by her abiding concern for every student she meets. I think of her as my colleague and ask her advice often, regretting only that we don't work on the same physical campus any longer. Our age is exciting, when virtual learning programs and widespread internet access bring text to everyone, but a wise and kind mentor like Conway is still the best guide to encounter a new text based language. Juli Fleming, MS Latin Teacher The Lovett School Conway is great with student visitors; she is fun, lively and engaging. Her love of objects and knowledge of ancient Mediterranean history has made her a valuable resource in developing tours specifically for Latin and Classics classes. From Parents & Students:
My 5 years of Latin study with Mrs. Brackett were the best part of my high school experience. She prepared me to successfully pass two AP exams and win the CAMWS award, all the while opening my eyes to the vast cultural and historical learning opportunities which a study of this language and culture could offer me. My years of study with Mrs. Brackett were vital to my admission to a top liberal arts university as well as the development of language and study skills that to this day help me to achieve my goals. Laura, Homeschool Student Conway is awesome! My son really connects with her, and she seems to engage him. He feels much better about Latin and his confidence has dramatically improved. She really helps him when it comes to the final exam, and he has confidence going into it. Conway relates to the children and has truly been instrumental to my son continuing on to Latin IV. I feel she tries to personalize her tutoring based on his learning style and the type of tests/exams that he takes. Mary, Marist School Parent Conway tutored my daughter in Latin and French for 3 years. She is a total delight! She never missed a day and was always prepared. My daughter has learning disabilities, which made Latin and French very hard. Conway figured out her learning style and taught her many tricks to help her understand and remember the material. Conway is the best possible teacher you will find. I am trying to talk her into helping my daughter with math! Laura, Westminster Parent |
