About
Magistra Conway Brackett has over 18 years of experience in teaching classical languages, primarily Latin I, II, III ,IV, and AP Vergil. She began her studies in French, Latin, and Greek at St. Catherine's School in Richmond, Virginia, where she won the Classical Association of Virginia's Vergil Latin competition - the same contest her father had won 30 years earlier. She earned her BA in Classics from the University of Virginia and her MA in Latin from the University of Georgia with her thesis concentrating on classical archaeology. After teaching in the Virginia public school system and winning a NEH fellowship for Virginia Latin teachers, Magistra Brackett moved to Atlanta to teach Latin, Greek, and World Languages at The Lovett School for nine years, where she was the recipient of the Woodward Award for Excellence in Teaching. There, she developed an interest in the different learning styles of her students and began to incorporate various teaching methods, technology, and study skills into her lesson plans. She also had the opportunity to study classical archaeology and topography abroad through the American Academy in Rome, excavate a Roman villa with a GISA Loveday grant, and tour Italy with her students. After teaching Latin poetry at Agnes Scott College, Magistra Brackett has focused her attention for the past seven years on her professional tutoring business, homeschool classes, and her volunteer job as a docent at the Michael C. Carlos Museum of Antiquities while raising her family in Decatur, Georgia.
